Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP, has said that local residents are being held hostage by the relatives of ministers and MPs, such as brothers, brothers-in-law, and nephews, who are imposing 'MP rule' in every parliamentary area. According to Rizvi, the government is now preparing to conduct another 'dummy' Upazila election, in which even leaders from the Awami League are not getting a chance to participate.
During the first day of a seven-day consecutive program at BNP's central office in Naya Paltan in the capital, amid severe heat, bottled water and saline were distributed to the distressed public. The event was organized by Dhaka South BNP and was chaired by the coordinator of the south, Abdus Salam, with Rafiqul Alam Majnu as the host.
Rizvi criticized Obaidul Quader, labeling him as the 'minister of thugs', and accused him of scheduling counter-programs to BNP’s activities to psychologically weaken the opposition. Rizvi recounted that journalists had asked Quader why he aligned his programs with BNP’s schedule, to which Quader allegedly responded that it was intended to mentally stress the BNP. Rizvi remarked that such actions are typical of mentally disturbed individuals and local thugs.
He also praised BNP's founder and former president, Ziaur Rahman, for making the country economically self-sufficient and abolishing the rationing system. Rizvi accused the current Awami League government of plundering the economy, making it fragile, and hypocritically reintroducing the rationing system which, he claims, has been monopolized by the Awami faction, excluding the general public. Rizvi lamented the escalating cost of living, stating that people are struggling to afford basic necessities, and in extreme cases, are forced to sell their children to survive.
