During a press conference at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's political office in Dhanmondi on Friday afternoon, Obaidul Quader, the General Secretary of the Awami League, criticized the opposition party BNP for its inability to recognize the developmental strides made by Bangladesh. "While Pakistan lauds Bangladesh's developmental achievements, the BNP overlooks them, seeing darkness where there is light," Quader remarked.
He further commented on the opposition's perspective, "Their negative outlook is evident in their disregard for the country's progress. They should take a cue from the positive comments made by the Prime Minister of Pakistan regarding our development."
In a separate statement, Quader also questioned the United States' role in the ongoing conflict in Gaza, challenging its position on human rights. "The U.S. is provoking further conflict in Gaza by financially supporting Israel. It is high time the U.S. clarified its position regarding the human rights violations perpetrated by Israel in the besieged Palestinian territories," he stated.
The comments come a day after Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif praised Bangladesh's economic progress, reflecting on past attitudes when 'East Pakistan' was viewed as a burden. "Now, when you look at Bangladesh's economic growth, it is indeed embarrassing for those who once underestimated it. The country has achieved remarkable industrial advancement," Sharif said.
