Government is anti-people, enemy of the people: Rizvi

Referring to the Awami League as an enemy of the people, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi accused the government of adopting policies that are detrimental to the public. "Even during the Pakistan era, we used to have summer holidays. Ramadan is a month of worship, yet this government kept schools open for 15 days. Where schools are closed two days a week, they keep them open on Saturdays, pushing children into the fire," Rizvi said. He argued that only an enemy of the people would adopt such policies.

Speaking on Friday, April 26, during a BNP-organized event distributing water and saline at Fakirapool market in the capital, Rizvi also commented on the current environmental conditions, "Bangladesh now resembles a blazing fire, with people in dire straits due to the intense heat, for which this anti-people government is solely to blame. They have failed to protect our rivers, which are being encroached upon by land grabbers. Trees are being cut down unjustly, and yet the government does nothing."

He further criticized environmental policies, "In Kuakata, thermal power plants and coal-fired plants in Bagerhat's Rampal are causing severe damage. Coconut trees by the sea no longer bear fruit, nor do crops grow. Our Sundarbans, our source of oxygen, are being burned and devastated."
