The campus of Chittagong University has turned into a battleground amidst clashes between factions of the Chhatra League. Reports indicate that at least 30 individuals, including three policemen, sustained severe injuries in the clash between the groups named CFC and Sixty-Nine. However, the identities of the injured parties have yet to be disclosed.
The clashes erupted on Friday afternoon and continued into the evening, with reports suggesting ongoing skirmishes as late as 8 pm. Information from the University's Medical Center corroborates these reports.
Sources suggest that the clashes between BCL factions stem from disputes over the university's admission test and the formation of a new committee on March 2nd.
Locally, it is reported that the conflict persists despite the presence of police and the university's proctor. The situation remains beyond control, with initial clashes occurring between Shahjalal and Shahamanat Hall in the afternoon, followed by involvement from Shahid Abdur Rab Hall later in the evening.
University proctor, Professor Dr Nurul Azim Sikder, expressed concerns over the lack of additional police forces and stated efforts to coordinate with the Officer-in-Charge (OC) and deploy RAB personnel to contain the situation.
