Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), lamented the tragic loss of lives at the Baily Road fire incident.
In a recent message shared via his Twitter (presently called X) account, he said, "the loss of at least 45 lives in the Dhaka fire tragedy is heartbreaking. My deepest condolences to the affected families, and thoughts and prayers for everyone who has lost loved ones or had their lives turned upside down."
He added that the repeated occurrences of these horrible incidents are testimony to the failure of the government. "With fires becoming more frequent in Bangladesh, attributed to inadequate public safety measures and corruption-ridden regulatory violations, there is a unanimous call for conducting thorough investigations by a competent and credible team."
He noted, "the precious lives of the Bangladeshi people cannot continue to be lost this way, and these tragic incidents must be prevented through robust protocols, public accountability, and good governance."
