BNP has condemned the attacks on Iftar gatherings in various educational institutions including Dhaka University. The party has alleged, "Being unable to manage the state affairs, the government has failed to control the market of daily necessities and has now unleashed the Chhatra League to disrupt the Iftar gatherings of devout Muslims. Whenever Awami League comes to power, they attack the religious beliefs and culture of Muslims and oppression descends upon the religious community. The reason behind this is to please their masters."
At a press conference in Naya Paltan on Friday (15 March), BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made these statements.
Rizvi said, "Meetings and all sorts of events are taking place in universities. We see the grand presence of individuals like Obaidul Quader, Hasan Mahmud at these events, but why are there bans and attacks on Iftar gatherings? Is this part of a deep conspiracy? What does it mean when the likes of Obaidul Quader get irritated by any religious event organised by Muslims?"
He added, "Awami League sometimes uses Islam for their own benefit and at other times discards it. The people of the country have lost voting rights, parliament, democracy, and the rule of law, and now, the majority Muslims of the country are on the verge of losing their culture and values."
He also condemned and protested against the publication of false news in a few government-controlled media outlets about BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and members of Ziaur Rahman's family.
