BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, mentioning the speech by Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, asserted that Quader's remarks demonstrated the lack of public support for them in the January 7 election, with 95% of the country's people boycotting the purportedly farcical polls.
He called upon activists, supporters, and well-wishers to persist in their movement against the government, emphasising that the government has succeeded in no sector. The people do not want this failed government.
Tarique Rahman said this while speaking virtually as the chief guest in a meeting and Iftar Mahfil hosted by the Dhara Union of Haluaghat Upazila in Mymensingh BNP and its affiliated organisations on Saturday afternoon.
The activists meeting and Iftar Mahfil, presided over by Union BNP former president Arfan Ali at Syed Surat Uddin Ahmed Rice Mill Square adjacent to Dhara Mia Bari, witnessed the presence of notable figures including BNP Organizing Secretary Syed Imran Saleh Prince, Mymensingh North District BNP Convener Professor Enayet Ullah Kalam, and Joint Convener Motahar Hossain Talukdar. Also in attendance were District Bar Association former president Nurul Haque, district BNP member Hafez Azizul Haque, Aslam Mia Babul, Hanif Mohammad Shaker Ullah, Professor Azharul Islam Kajal, Abu Hasnat Badrul Kabir, Ali Amjad Khan Dipu, and others, who shared their insights during the event.
Emran Saleh Prince highlighted that Obaidul Quader's statements have exposed the government's facade. The absence of public support was evident, and the farcical elections were orchestrated through unwarranted interference from neighbouring countries. He emphasised that the Awami League's actions have infringed upon the rights of the people, courtesy of meddling by foreign powers in a sovereign nation. By dismantling the electoral system and fostering extreme partisanship within state institutions, the Awami League has effectively obstructed the path to a change of power through fair and unbiased elections. Prince asserted that the prospect of free and fair elections is nonexistent under a partisan government. An election conducted under the Awami League's auspices merely serves to implement their predetermined agenda.
In light of the persistent surge in commodity prices, he lamented that the incompetent government has exacerbated the people's plight. Emphasising that the struggle is far from over, he advocated intensifying street protests to demand elections under a neutral administration.
The Dhara Union BNP activist meeting and Iftar Mahfil marked the inaugural event of the Iftar Mahfil held in the virtual presence of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman nationwide.
The meeting was attended by leaders and activists representing BNP and its affiliated organisations from all nine wards of the union.
