ABM Ruhul Amin Hawladar, the nominated candidate of the Jatiya Party for the Patuakhali-1 in the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections, used Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's picture in his election banners, posters, and leaflets. Discussion and criticism regarding his election poster are ongoing in Patuakhali.
On the election poster featuring Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's picture, he wrote, “ABM Ruhul Amin Hawladar is the candidate nominated by the Jatiya Party and supported by the Awami League coalition.” The matter does not appear normal to local Awami League leaders and activists.
Assistant Public Prosecutor SM Kamal Hossain, the younger brother of Advocate Afzal Hossain, Organising Secretary of Central Awami League who withdrew his nomination from this seat, expressed on Facebook that the plough symbol should not feature the image of the Honourable Prime Minister. The plough symbol does not represent Bangladesh Awami League. According to him, those who chant 'Bangladesh Zindabad' are not affiliated with the Awami League. He emphasised that true Awami League supporters’ slogans are ‘Jai Bangla’ and ‘Jai Bangabandhu’.
Ruhul Amin Howladar has emerged as the alliance candidate for the Patuakhali-1 seat. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations was December 17. In a last-minute development, a compromise was struck between the Awami League and Jatiya Party. Consequently, Advocate Afzal Hussain, the incumbent Member of Parliament and the central organisational secretary of Awami League withdrew his nomination as the Awami League's candidate for this seat.
