Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of BNP, said, "In the past, some robbers would loot and set fire to houses. The Awami League is in a similar situation. The Awami League is destroying all institutions by looting. On the day the new Vice-Chancellor took office at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), doctors, nurses, officers, and staff complained that the previous Vice-Chancellor had committed corruption worth hundreds of crores of Taka. In this way, everything including hospitals has been destroyed by looting."
He made these comments at an Iftar and prayer gathering organized by the Munshiganj district BNP on Friday.
Referring to the incidents that occurred at BSMMU during the new Vice-Chancellor's tenure, he said, "The doctors, nurses, and others there are claiming that the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of BSMMU committed corruption worth hundreds of crores. On the day the new Vice-Chancellor took office, people there indecently celebrated with drums and music and welcomed the new Vice-Chancellor. In this way, all the hospitals in the country have been destroyed."
Tarique Rahman said, "I saw in the newspaper that a rickshaw puller went to a government hospital for treatment. There was no treatment available, nor were there any medicines. The poor man couldn't afford to buy medicines and later committed suicide. They are not just a group of robbers; when I was a child, I used to hear stories about how robbers would loot and set fire to houses. The current Awami League is such a party; they will loot and destroy everything. If anything happens to them, they go abroad for treatment. They have made homes there. They have destroyed this country."
He further stated, "On January 7, the people of the country proved that they are not with the government. They are with the BNP and other opposition political parties. The people of the country have silently proven that. Because, before the election, leaflets were distributed among the people to boycott the elections by highlighting the situation of the country. They were called upon to boycott the elections. On the day of the election, no voters were seen at the polling stations. At the polling stations, we saw monkey dances. We also saw dogs running around. Awami League terrorists were roaming there. It was like making the same person appear repeatedly in a line like the fable of baby crocodiles."
Tarique Rahman stated, "Not just in Munshiganj, countless leaders and activists across the country have been imprisoned. Why have they been imprisoned? Because they protested. They protested against the vote robbery by a government that is internationally recognized as vote thieves. Did they only commit vote theft? They have committed bank robberies and destroyed various institutions of the country."
He added, "People did not go to vote on January 7th. They had gone to vote in 2018 but could not cast their votes at that time because the mafia government did not allow people to vote. It's not just the national elections; people couldn't vote in Upazila, municipal, or any other local elections. The Awami League have destroyed the voting system. They have destroyed banks and caused them go bankrupt. They have embezzled money from banks and smuggled it abroad."
He further stated, "Countless leaders and activists across the country have been imprisoned under false cases. The cases were filed by the administration. The administration is no longer impartial; it has been politicized by Awami League. The neutrality of the administration has been compromised. The courts in Bangladesh are not impartial. They have become an extension of the Awami League. The biggest proof of this is the Chief Justice of the High Court who went to America where he was honoured by people from the Awami League. The judiciary has been destroyed. People have been deprived of their right to justice. People believe that they cannot get fair justice from the courts. If people from the Awami League commit theft or robbery, they are not brought to justice. On the other hand, innocent people from the BNP are arrested and imprisoned under false charges."
Criticizing the government, Tareq Rahman said, "Like shooting birds, the Indian Border Security Force is killing people at the border. The government cannot even protest. How can they, when they themselves claim that they came to power with the support of the neighboring country?"
