Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of BNP, commented that "the people of Bangladesh have sent a message in the 12th national parliamentary election. That message is to be united. Put aside the differences and come together. Save the country. We are with you."
He expressed that different political parties may have different opinions and disagreements, but we should come together through discussion and save the country.
Speaking as the chief guest at an Iftar and prayer meeting organized by the Krishak Dal on Saturday, he virtually joined and conveyed these thoughts.
Tarique Rahman emphasized, "We need to unite today. There is no other way. We must unite at any cost. The election that took place on January 7th was not attended by the people. There is nothing to prove here. Today, not only the country but also the world knows that people did not go to the polling stations that day. It was a mockery in the name of voting."
He mentioned, "In the January 7th election, the people entrusted the opposition political parties with a responsibility. What is that responsibility? To save the country from the vote robbers and the puppet government. Different parties may have different opinions and beliefs. But we need to unite in one belief. That belief is Bangladesh. If Bangladesh exists, we exist; if not, none of us do. The people of this Bangladesh are the owners of Bangladesh, nobody else."
Rahman also highlighted the plight of the people of Bangladesh, saying, "The picture of how oppressed the people of Bangladesh are today is clear. Some have become martyrs, some have been imprisoned in the past while participating in movements. Why? They were oppressed while fighting for people's rights. Today, the right to vote, human rights, and all constitutional rights have been plundered. The independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh have been robbed."
Referring to the death of a Bangladeshi by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Lalmonirhat border, he said, "Today, one of our brothers has been killed at the border. We have received the "gift" of independence. Today's incident highlights how our country's independence and sovereignty are under threat. Yet, the government does not protest."
