Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP's Standing Committee, has remarked that everyone, except the beneficiaries of the Awami League, is speaking against the government.
He questioned the current standing of Bangladesh following the farcical election, pointing out that both domestically and internationally, people are wondering about the country's status.
On Monday (1 April), during an iftar gathering organized by the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) Chittagong branch at Nasirabad Convention Hall in Chittagong city, Khasru made these comments as the chief guest.
He stated, "On 7 January, the people of Bangladesh clarified their position. There was no election on 7 January, but a public vote instead. The BNP had urged the people not to participate in the election. Over 95% of the people abstained from voting that day, rejecting Sheikh Hasina's electoral system through a public vote."
Khasru further added, "Through this public vote, the people of Bangladesh have once again clarified their stance. They want to bid farewell to this fascist government. They wish to regain their voting rights, democratic, and political freedoms, as well as the rights of the media. More than 95% of the people stood with the people that day, while less than 5% supported Sheikh Hasina."
He also mentioned that the civil society, which previously remained silent, is now vocally rejecting this illegitimate government and speaking in favor of democracy.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Tamiz Uddin Ahmed Manik, president of DAB Chittagong district, and conducted by Dr. Md. Foyezur Rahman, general secretary of DAB at Chittagong Medical College, with the keynote address given by Professor Dr. Harun Al Rashid, president of the DAB Central Committee.
