BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has requested prayers from the citizens of the country for her recovery. On Tuesday night, her personal physician, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, informed journalists in front of the BNP Chairperson's residence in Gulshan, Dhaka. Begum Khaleda Zia returned to her residence in Gulshan (Firoza) at 7:55 PM after undergoing health examinations at the Evercare Hospital in the capital.

Dr. Zahid Hossain stated that she was brought home because she felt relatively better. She is feeling a bit more relieved compared to the 30th. Through the journalists, she has requested prayers from the citizens and everyone for her recovery.

He further mentioned that after admitting Khaleda Zia to the Critical Care Unit of Evercare Hospital, some tests were conducted swiftly, which are not possible to do at home. The medical board members also conducted examinations on the 31st. Every necessary step for her treatment has been taken by the members of the medical board. That's why she has asked for prayers through the journalists and the citizens.

"By the grace of Allah, she started feeling slightly better from Monday. Subsequently, two board meetings were held with her medical board members from both domestic and international teams," he added.

Dr. Zahid said, following the meetings, the medical board suggested some changes in her treatment. However, there was no need for significant changes in her treatment. Some treatments, which are not possible to administer at home, are given in the hospital. Even amidst her illness, she felt somewhat comfortable. Therefore, to prevent her condition from worsening due to the hospital environment, her treatment will continue at home under the constant supervision of the medical board.

Last Saturday night, Begum Khaleda Zia was taken to the hospital for a health check-up. Following the medical board's advice, she was admitted to the ICU. While hospitalized, she was under close observation in the Critical Care Unit (CCU).

The last time she went to the hospital for a health check-up was on 13th March. She was admitted to the hospital at that time and returned home after her health examination on 14th March.

Khaleda Zia was admitted to the Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on 9th August last year. After more than five months of treatment, she returned home on 11th January. Although her family applied to the government to take her abroad for advanced treatment, permission was not granted.

The BNP Chairperson, who was sentenced in two corruption cases, was imprisoned on 8th February 2018. She was in prison for over two years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, on 25th March 2020, the government suspended her sentence through an executive order and released her conditionally. Since then, the government has been extending her release by suspending her sentence every six months.
