Acting Chairman of BNP Tarique Rahman drew attention to the news published by a daily newspaper from Dhaka regarding the corruption allegations against the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Benazir Ahmed. Tarique Rahman stated, "Information about a former IGP, who is closely related with the illegal government, has been leaked regarding his assets, estimated to be worth hundreds of crores of taka. He and many individuals have amassed wealth amounting to hundreds of crores during this government's tenure. They have systematically looted the people's wealth and smuggled it abroad."
Tarique Rahman made these remarks as the chief guest during an iftar and doa mahfil organized by Dinajpur Sadar Upazila BNP on Tuesday.
Tarique Rahman expressed, "Bangladesh has been transformed into a prison today. The grip of robbers has enveloped our nation. They have pillaged everything, rendering the people destitute. Those who dare to speak up against the oppressive rule of those who seized power through theft and coercion face persecution. Activists are being unlawfully arrested and thrown into prisons."
He remarked, "Today, the government has decimated the nation by stealing the people's votes. Countless individuals across the country are sustaining their families through loans. Millions struggle to afford even a single meal, uncertain of their next. Farmers, numbering in the millions, are denied fair prices for their produce, compelling many to abandon their livelihoods."
During his speech, Rahman pointed out, "During the tenure of BNP, the enrollment of students in schools and colleges saw a rise. However, presently, it is on a decline."
He stated, "Today, cases have been filed against millions of people in the country. So that they cannot protest against the injustice of the government. The judiciary cannot function independently and fails to deliver justice. Moreover, it appears to be operating in favour of the government. BUET students are currently protesting against the intrusion of the Chhatra League onto their campus. This protest arises from past incidents where Chhatra League members, identified as terrorists, assaulted and killed promising individuals like Abrar. Despite this, the Chhatra League has once again gained access to BUET after a prolonged absence. Just as this happened, the court ruled to allow student politics, enabling Chhatra League's re-entry into BUET. The courts cannot fulfil what the ordinary people want from the judiciary. People will not get justice from this court.”
