KNF Attacks Thanchi Police Station, Exchange of Fire with Police-BGB

After attacks and bank robberies, reports have surfaced of intense gunfire between law enforcement agencies and the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) in Thanchi, Bandarban.

The gunfire reportedly began around 8:40 PM on Thursday, according to those present in the area.

Locals say that the area was showered with bullets, leaving many trapped in various locations.

Residents informed the media that intense gunfire is ongoing. Terrorists disconnected the market's electricity and are firing in all directions. They are advancing towards the Thanchi police station while shooting. During this time, locals started to panic and run.

However, immediate statements from the police or BGB regarding the gunfire were not available.

Describing the situation, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Thanchi, Mohammad Mamun, said, "Around 9 PM, a group of armed individuals began firing in the Thanchi market and later at the police station. The police and BGB are returning fire. Shooting is also happening near the back of the hospital. The situation is indeed as described. I will provide more details later."

On this matter, the Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the media, "We are aware of the gunfire in Thanchi. We are taking the matter seriously and working on it."
