Bank robbers and vote robbers are the same: Tarique Rahman

Regarding the spate of bank robberies nationwide, including in Bandarban, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman remarked, "Bank robberies are occurring across the country. There is no distinction between them and those who steal votes. It's the same individuals operating in different capacities."

He made these remarks as the chief guest during an iftar party organized by Joypurhat District BNP on Thursday.

He stated, "There exists a student organization engaged in electoral fraud, known as Chhatra League. The individuals affiliated with the Chhatra League are seizing control of businesses nationwide. They are involved in various criminal activities, including robbery and extortion."

In his critique of the administration, Tarique Rahman expressed, "The government, known for electoral fraud, has transformed the entire country's administration into a partisan entity. They are ineffective in serving the people, resorting to various forms of torture and financial exploitation. Moreover, they fabricate false cases against BNP and opposition politicians, using them as a means to harass."

Discussing the nuclear power plant in Rooppur, Pabna, he remarked, "There was a pillow incident in the nuclear power plant. This reflects their approach to undertaking various mega projects under the guise of development. The costs of such projects have skyrocketed, leading to widespread corruption and looting."

Regarding the stock market, he remarked, "The media published the news that the stock market has been devasted. Approximately 1 lakh crore taka have vanished from there. Money has been illicitly funnelled abroad, evading repayment of bank loans. Banks are now signalling alarm with their red lights flashing. There is a picture of one with all the looters in all sectors. She is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself. These actions are being shielded under her protection."

Displaying images depicting the torture of leaders and activists, Tarique Rahman asserted, "Over the past 15-16 years, BNP party leaders and activists have been subjected to widespread torture throughout the nation. Many have been killed or forcibly disappeared. False cases have been filed against countless activists nationwide. What is their crime? Their only offence is criticizing electoral fraud. Activists are being prosecuted merely for protesting against vote rigging."
