Tarique Rahman sends Eid gift to Shahjahan who lost both eyes

BNP leader from Mirzapur Upazila of Tangail, Md. Shahjahan, has received Eid greetings and gifts on behalf of BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman.

On Saturday afternoon, the gift was delivered to Md. Shahjahan's son, DM Amirul Islam Amar, at his residence in Jatrabari, Dhaka, by BNP's Central Committee's Child Affairs Secretary and former MP Abul Kalam Azad Siddique, along with leaders of the Upazila BNP.

Md. Shahjahan's home is in Jogirkofa village of Latifpur Union in Mirzapur Upazila. He is currently staying at his son's house for medical treatment.

While handing over the Eid gift, BNP's Central Committee's Child Affairs Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Siddique, mentioned that during the anti-government movement in 2015, Md. Shahjahan, then Vice-President of Latifpur Union BNP, and approximately 70 to 75 other leaders and activists were injured due to rubber bullets and baton charges by the police.

Following the attack, Md. Shahjahan gradually lost his vision in both eyes. A list of individuals injured during anti-government protests at various times has been sent to BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, including the name of Md. Shahjahan from Mirzapur.

Tarique Rahman has been inquiring about Md. Shahjahan for the past five years, and as a continuation, he has sent Eid greetings and gifts this time.

Abul Kalam Azad Siddique criticized the government for clinging to power through force but asserted that the government would not last as the majority of the population desires freedom from this illegitimate regime. He promised that the people's victory is inevitable and that the fascist government will be ousted.

The former MP highlighted the sacrifices made by many due to the atrocities committed by the Awami force, including deaths, disappearances, and disabilities. Md. Shahjahan's blindness as a result of losing both eyes is a part of these sacrifices, which BNP will always remember. Although BNP might not be able to restore his vision, ousting the fascist government would be a significant achievement.

Also present were Mirzapur Upazila BNP's Publicity Secretary Taherul Haque Khokon, Information and Research Secretary DM Amirul Islam Amar, and BNP leader Arif, among others.

DM Amirul Islam Amar, son of BNP leader Alhaj Md. Shahjahan, has served as the former Office Secretary of Dhaka Journalists Union (DUJ) and is currently the Information and Research Secretary of Mirzapur Upazila BNP. He has also been the former Media Secretary of the central committee of Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha also known as JASAS, the cultural of wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
