We will restore democracy like other countries: Tarique Rahman

Acting Chairman of BNP, Tarique Rahman, remarked, "Various countries across the globe have experienced periods of undemocratic governance, much like Bangladesh. However, opposition politicians in those nations united and successfully restored democracy. Similarly, all opposition parties in our country will unite to restore democracy."

He made these statements today, Saturday while participating in virtual Iftar and Doa Mahfil events organized by various district BNP chapters.

He expressed that the populace abstained from voting during the January 7 election, delivering a clear message to opposition political parties. This message underscores their desire for a fair electoral process in the nation. It's not solely the demand of BNP but resonates as the collective voice of the people. This call for fairness transcends party lines, echoing the sentiments of patriotic citizens across various demographics. It's incumbent upon opposition politicians to cultivate an environment conducive to such an election.

Tarique Rahman emphasized that today, persecution extends beyond just opposition party politicians in the country. Individuals from all walks of life and professions are facing oppression. Respected figures of society are enduring unjust treatment. Moreover, journalists are constrained from freely expressing truths. The tragic case of Sagar-Rooney stands as a stark example of this repression, where investigative agencies are sluggishly progressing in filing murder reports one after another.

Pointing to the widespread electricity load-shedding evident across the nation, he remarked, "Load-shedding has commenced nationwide even before the onset of summer heat. Yet, the government, accused of electoral malpractice, boasts of unprecedented electricity production. Under the guise of power generation, they've siphoned off substantial sums of money abroad. Despite escalating electricity prices each month, the populace continues to grapple with inadequate access to electricity, ultimately burdening the people while serving the interests of a select few."
