Abdus Salam, the advisor to the BNP Chairperson and coordinator of the Dhaka South BNP, stated that no one, from children to the elderly, businessmen to politicians, has been spared from the oppression of the Awami League. The most cruel governance will remain a dark chapter in the pages of history.
This government lacks any affection for the nation. Therefore, they are desperate to stay in power, even if it means selling the country's sovereignty, he added.
The statement was made during a speech as the chief guest at a meeting organized by Adabor unit of BNP, chaired by Nasir Uddin and conducted by joint coordinator Monowar Hossain Jibon, with Aminul Haque, the Member Secretary of Dhaka North, speaking as the main speaker on Sunday.
Salam said, "By teaching the new generation a false history, the government is burying the real history. By making terms like 'forced disappearance' and 'crossfire' a everyday language, they are turning the state into a criminal one. Brutal tortures and killings are taking place in police stations and prisons, which even the Pakistani rulers did not do."
In his speech, Aminul Haque mentioned, "Just as BNP leader Khaleda Zia is an uncompromising leader, our activists and leaders have not learned to compromise. Hundreds of brothers have become martyrs in the movement for the restoration of democracy. Thousands of activists and leaders have been maimed. But the supporters of President Zia have not lost their morale. The more we face jail and persecution, the stronger our movement will become."
During this time, Sohel Rahman, Akhtaruzzaman, Haji Md. Yusuf, Aftab Uddin Jasim, and other leaders and activists from Dhaka North BNP, Adabor unit BNP, and associated organizations were present.
