A young man named Shahiduzzaman Palash was beaten to death by miscreants in Sonaimuri, Noakhali. It is believed that he died due to a heavy blow on his head.

On Saturday (January 13) at around 10 pm, the police recovered the body from Nateshwar village in the Nateshwar union of Sonaimuri upazila.

Shahiduzzaman Palash was the agent of the defeated independent candidate in Nateshwar Union of Sonaimuri Upazila of Noakhali-2 constituency in the recently held 12th National Assembly Election.

According to local sources, Palash is the son of Jamal Hossain from Nateshwar village. He returned to the country from Saudi Arabia five years ago and had been saving money to go to Italy. During the recently concluded parliamentary elections, Palash worked as an agent at a centre for independent candidate Ataur Rahman Bhuya Manik in the Noakhali-2 (Senbagh-Sonaimuri partial) constituency.

Confirmation of Palash's role in the election was obtained by examining his Facebook ID. Shortly before his tragic demise, he posted a message saying 'All Manik Bhai.'

Bakhtiar Uddin Chowdhury, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonaimuri Police Station, stated that the body of the deceased was discovered at the reported location after they received information. It was noted that he had sustained a head injury from a heavy object.

He further mentioned that Palash resided with his wife and children in his father-in-law's house. In addition to his residence, he managed a chicken farm on the property. Two farm workers left after selling some chickens on Saturday afternoon, leaving Palash alone. At approximately 8 pm, Palash called his wife, informing her that he would visit a duck farm from there and return home later. However, around 10 pm, residents discovered Palash's lifeless and bloodied body near his residence.

Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to determine the motive behind the murder. The body has been transferred to the morgue at Noakhali 250-bed general hospital for a post-mortem examination.
