Ruling party hastily takes oath in fear

The country's people rejected this election, and the democratic world did not accept it either. Out of this fear, MPs quickly took the oath, and ministers followed suit. Their fear is when the card is overturned. However, merely taking this oath will not expedite the formation of the government.

The leaders conveyed this message during a rally and protest march in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Friday afternoon, organised under the initiative of the Gonotontro Mancha. Mahmudur Rahman Manna, the president of Nagorik Oikya, presided over the rally.

During the rally, the leaders called the January 7 election a 'dummy election' and called for its cancellation. They asserted that the polling stations resembled deserted land, with people actively boycotting the vote. There were doubts whether more than 5 to 7 percent votes were cast, they said. Yet, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) was prompted to announce a 41 per cent polling turnout figure. The parties involved in the elections now provide testimony stating that no genuine election occurred on January 7.

Leaders asserted that even allies of the government party, including prominent figures within their ranks, are now acknowledging that the election was heavily rigged.

Claiming that the country's people rejected the election, the leaders emphasised that the democratic world has also refused to accept it. This fear drove the swift oath-taking by parliamentarians and ministers. Their anxiety is whether the card is overturned. However, these measures are not sufficient. The people's boycott on January 7 marked the initiation of a new mass resistance. The leaders insist that the government must step down in the face of the people's resistance.

The rally featured addresses from key figures including Saiful Haque, the General Secretary of the Revolutionary Workers Party; Junaid Saki, Chief Coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolon; Freedom Fighter Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Convener of Bhasani Anusari Parishad; Advocate Hasnat Quaiyum, Chief Coordinator of the Rashtra Sanskar Andolan; and Tanya Rob, Senior Vice President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD. Shahidullah Kaiser, the General Secretary of Nagrik Oikya conducted the meeting.

General Secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD  Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan, Executive Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon Abul Hasan Rubel, Member Secretary of Bhasani Anusari Parishad Habibur Rahman Riju, Presidium Member of the Nagrik Oikya Mofakkarul Islam Nawab, Political Council Member of the Bangladesh Revolutionary Workers Party Akbar Khan, and Organisational Coordinator of Rashtro Sangskar Andolon Imran Emon, and others were also present at the event.
