Two members of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) were assaulted on Monday (June 24), inside Dhaka Cantonment in the presence of former NSI Director General TM Jobayer.

Eyewitnesses and reliable sources reported that on that day, around 12:05-12:10 PM, the car carrying former NSI Director General TM Jobayer exited his bungalow, made a U-turn in front of the Army MP Unit, and stopped on the main road approximately 75 yards south of the main gate of the new Officers' Mess in Senasadar.

At the same time, in the adjacent rickshaw lane, NSI Field Staff Md. Belal Hossain (D2233) was being briefed by Junior Field Officer Md.Shaheen Reza (C1213) on the area from CSD to Staff Road.

It is to be noted that Field Staff Md. Belal Hossain joined the Dhaka Cantonment Branch, NSI Office on 19/06/2024. And under the direction of the appropriate authorities, Junior Field Officer Md. Shaheen Reza was on duty in the said area to give Md. Belal Hossain a proper understanding of the field level.

At this point, three retired army personnel wearing NSI jackets inside out suddenly emerged from behind the former NSI Director General's car and forcefully grabbed Field Staff Md. Belal Hossain and Junior Field Officer Md. Shaheen Reza from behind.

They demanded identification and despite the NSI officers identifying themselves, they were assaulted with sharp pin-like objects and their mobile phones were forcibly taken.

They also accused Belal and Shaheen of taking photos of the former NSI chief’s car but Junior Field Officer Shahin strongly denied their allegation and explained the whole matter, saying his mobile was simply in his hand.

Nevertheless, both of them were physically assaulted.

At that time, former Chief Major General TM Jobayer was observing the entire incident from inside the car. At one point, his two bodyguards from the NSI Cantonment Branch forcibly held Field Staff Belal and pushed him towards the front of the car.

Major General TM Jobayer questioned his identity and verbally abused him. Later at the instruction of the former NSI chief, his ID card was confiscated.

The former NSI chief and their bodyguards left the place without returning the ID cards or the mobile phones.

According to military sources, all of TM Jobayer's bodyguards have been discharged from military service due to criminal reasons under AR (AI) 171M, through SCM.

The identities of at least two of them have been confirmed–Corporal (Dismissed) Tajul Islam and Corporal (Dismissed) Alil Matubbar.

According to NSI sources, it is known that during his tenure as Chief, Major General TM Jobayer appointed several dismissed military personnel as his bodyguards in NSI without adhering to any regulations.

These undisciplined and irregular members have previously been involved in similar incidents that have angered NSI's non-military personnel.
