Due to the intense heat, the High Court has ordered all primary and secondary educational institutions to remain closed until Thursday. However, institutions equipped with air conditioning systems are exempt from this directive. The High Court bench, composed of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Khizir Hayat, issued this order on their own accord.
Institutions with air conditioning, universities, 'O' Level exams, and public examinations will be exempt from this prohibition.
Following reports of deaths and illnesses among students and teachers after reopening schools amid a heat advisory, Supreme Court lawyer Monir Uddin drew the court's attention to these issues.
Classes in all primary, secondary schools, and colleges across the country resumed on Sunday after the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday and due to the heatwave, although they were initially scheduled to reopen on April 21, the closure was extended until April 27 due to the severe heat.
Earlier, due to the ongoing intense heatwave, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education announced the closure of all government primary schools, Child Welfare Trust schools, and learning centers under the Education Bureau until Thursday. Today, Monday, Senior Information Officer Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin of the ministry signed a notification stating that this decision was taken to ensure the health and safety of the children."
