Milton Somaddar on a 3-Day Remand

Milton Somaddar, Chairman of 'Child and Old Age Care,' has been granted a three-day remand by a court in connection with a case of forging death certificates. The remand was approved on Thursday, May 2nd, by Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain.

Prior to the court appearance, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Kamal Hossain of the Mirpur Zonal Team, applied for a seven-day remand. Milton’s lawyer, Wahiduzzaman Biplob, filed for remand cancellation and bail.

The investigation alleges that Milton fraudulently issued 50 fake death certificates. He provides shelter to the elderly, children, and disabled at his health care center 'Child and Old Age Care,' often misrepresenting himself as a doctor.

The remand seeks to investigate whether he possesses any documents related to killing or physically and mentally torturing people under the guise of providing medical treatment, and if he was involved in organ trafficking. Milton was arrested by the detective police from Mirpur area on Wednesday, May 1st.

Reports claim that Somaddar, who has received various awards for his public service, is involved in major irregularities. Despite his social media profiles highlighting his work in building old age homes for the destitute and providing shelter for the homeless, more sinister allegations have surfaced.

Among the accusations are illegal organ trade activities, particularly involving kidney removal and sales. These revelations prompted public outcry and intense discussions on social media, leading to Somaddar’s arrest. The case was filed on Thursday morning by SI Mohammad Kamal Pasha of the Mirpur division at Mirpur Police Station.
