Naogaon, Jan 9 (UNB) - Three people died in a head-on collision between a dump truck and a pickup van on the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway in Manda upazila of Naogaon.

The incident happened around 9:30 pm on Tuesday. The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.

Manda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozammel Haque Kazi confirmed the news.

Quoting locals, OC Mozammel said the pickup carrying workers was heading towards Rajshahi at night, when it collided with a speeding dump truck coming from the opposite direction.

One person died on the spot. Several others were taken to a local hospital, where two others died.

Police were sent to the spot after being informed by the locals, added the OC.

“Fire service and police are working to recover the vehicles involved in the incident. Work is underway to confirm the identities of the victims,” the OC said.
