On Tuesday afternoon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited foreign diplomats and international observers to a briefing session after the 12th National Assembly elections at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital. Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen criticized the one-sided comments from Western governments without remarking on the election environment and observation. He stated that the government does not consider the comments of these countries. Many diplomats were embarrassed by such comments.
At one point, several diplomats, including the American ambassador Peter D. Haas, left the venue before the event concluded. Peter D. Haas was not even accepting the arrangements to entertain the guests.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. AK Abdul Momen, expressed his satisfaction, stating, "We are very pleased to have free, fair, acceptable, and conflict-free elections. The people have made their decision, and we consider that sufficient. We don't require anything else. Alhamdulillah, the people have given their verdict."
Regarding the positions of the United States and the United Kingdom, the foreign minister stated, "We are not concerned about them. The people have delivered their verdict, and all those who have come to support us in other countries have affirmed that the country has conducted free, fair, and acceptable elections."
Ambassadors and High Commissioners from approximately 50 countries assigned to Bangladesh, including representatives from the United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, Russia, China, Palestine, Switzerland, Germany, and the European Union, were present at the event.
