Legal notice sent to DBC news anchor Naznin Munni and six others, demanding Tk 500 Crore in compensation

A legal notice has been served to six individuals, including DBC News anchor Naznin Munni, demanding a compensation of Tk 500 crore for defamatory remarks aired on the private television channel.

The legal notice was sent on Sunday (June 9) on behalf of Barrister M. Sarwar Hossain.

The notice was sent to Naznin Munni, DBC News Managing Director Md Shahjahan, Editor-in-Chief M. Manzurul Islam, Managing Director Shahidul Ahsan, and Chairman Iqbal Sobhan.

According to the notice, Naznin Munni’s signature program "RajKahon” aired on May 19, 2024, featured guests Ishak Ali Khan Panna, Sheikh Rabiul Alam, and political party Bangladesh Nationalist Movement's self-proclaimed Secretary General Mohammad Shahjahan.

During the show, Shahjahan allegedly made false, defamatory, and malicious remarks about Barrister M. Sarwar Hossain.

The notice claims that these remarks were aired without any basis or justification and were aimed at tarnishing Barrister Hossain's reputation and causing damage to his professional standing.

The notice further states that the defamatory content was also uploaded on DBC News' YouTube channel on May 20, further amplifying its reach and impact.

The plaintiff has demanded a public apology from the defendants, along with the payment of Tk 500 crore in compensation for the damages incurred. Failure to comply within the specified timeframe will result in legal action.
