At least 50 students were injured in clashes with BCL activists on DU campus.

Around 50 students were injured this afternoon when members of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) attacked a quota reform protest at Dhaka University's VC Chattar.

The injured students were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Following the attack, BCL activists dispersed the protesters and began patrolling the entire DU campus, with reinforcements arriving in pickups around 4:20 pm.

Around 3:30 pm, BCL members from various Dhaka University halls and Dhaka city units attacked protesting students, using iron rods and sticks, injuring over 50.

The attackers then chased the protesters away. Injured students were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Earlier, at 3:00 pm, another clash occurred when protesters using loudspeakers called on students from different dormitories to join them.

Upon reaching Bijoy Ekattor Hall, BCL members inside threw bricks at the protesters, leading to retaliation.

Subsequently, both groups, armed with sticks and iron rods, pursued and were pursued by each other.

Protesting PM’s remark

Around noon today, students protesting for quota reform in government jobs gathered at Raju Memorial Sculpture for a scheduled demonstration to reiterate their demands and call for the Prime Minister to retract recent remarks on the issue.

The students, including those from Dhaka University, view the Prime Minister's comments as insulting and announced this fresh protest after demonstrating for two hours last night.

During a Sunday press conference, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina questioned why protesters harbor resentment towards the Liberation War and freedom fighters.

She asked, "If the grandchildren of freedom fighters don't benefit, does that mean the grandchildren of Razakars [Pakistani collaborators] will?"

The Prime Minister's comments drew condemnation from Sarjis Alam, coordinator of the 'Anti-Discrimination Student Movement,' who expressed disappointment and called for the remarks to be withdrawn.
