Russian students gain hands-on experience at Rooppur nuclear power plant
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, ten students from various Russian universities have commenced a two-month labor semester at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction site.
The program, launched on July 10th and supported by Rosatom, aims to provide hands-on experience in NPP construction processes.
Participants will actively engage in construction and installation works, alongside gaining experience in catalog preparation, documentation management, equipment inspection, and RPS engineering.
Similar labor semesters are planned for El-Dabaa NPP (Egypt), Kudankulam NPP (India), and are already underway at Kursk NPP-2 (Russia).
This initiative is part of a larger program that will see about 150 students participate in labor semesters across four Rosatom Engineering Division construction sites in 2024.
Rosatom's student construction team initiative, launched in 2008 with 25 students at Rostov NPP, has grown significantly over the past 15 years.
The program expanded internationally in 2013 with the inclusion of Belarus NPP and now boasts over 17,000 participants engaged in 29 construction sites across Russia, Turkey, Belarus, China, India, and Egypt.
The program's success was further cemented with a 2014 cooperation agreement between Rosatom and Russian Student Teams.
This collaboration has provided invaluable hands-on experience to aspiring professionals in the nuclear industry, contributing to projects like Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh.
Rooppur NPP, currently under construction by Rosatom Engineering Division, will feature two Generation 3+ VVER-1200 reactors, each with a lifespan of 60 years, extendable to 80.
This project underscores Rosatom's commitment to providing safe and reliable nuclear energy solutions while fostering the next generation of nuclear professionals through its innovative student program.
