Police use of force injures 15 at Dhaka University protest

At least 15 students were injured when police used rubber bullets, tear gas, and sound grenades to disperse a quota reform protest on the Dhaka University campus.

The demonstration, which followed a memorial service for those killed in earlier protests, was heading towards TSC when police intervened.

They broke through a police barricade and were subsequently chased and dispersed with force, resulting in injuries.

Students, after being chased and attacked by police, retreated to their dorms and are now leaving the halls in large numbers with backpacks.

As of 5:36pm, police have stationed themselves at various points, including Mall Chattar, while Chhatra League and Jubo League members have taken positions across the campus, including Shahbag and Nilkhet.

Inspector Bacchu Mia of DMCH police outpost reported that six journalists and two students have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

According to DMCH sources, both students admitted to the hospital had multiple pellets in their legs, and the number of injured individuals continued to rise.

Inspector Bacchu Mia reported that at least 30 people from various parts of Dhaka were admitted to the hospital throughout the day.

Police used tear gas and sound grenades against quota reform protesters at Dhaka University while attempting to evict them from their dormitories.
