"Don’t make a mockery of the nation '': HC tells the state attorney pointing at DB Chief's practice of posting lunch photos with “detainees”
"Don't make a mockery of the nation" - the High Court made this remark today during a hearing.
The court made this remark towards the state during a hearing on a writ petition seeking immediate release of the "so-called detained" six coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement and instructions not to shoot at protesters in various parts of the country.
The hearing on the writ petition started around 1:30 pm today in the High Court bench comprising Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon.
During one phase of the hearing, Additional Attorney General Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury said, "I saw on TV that these six people (coordinators) are eating with spoons and forks."
At one point, the court remarked, "Who told you to do these things? Why did you do them? Don’t make a mockery of the nation. Just take whoever you have and seat them at a dining table."
Earlier today, two Supreme Court lawyers filed a writ petition seeking immediate release of the six coordinators of the so-called anti-discrimination student movement and also requesting an order to refrain from using bullets against protesters in various locations across the country.
The lawyers are Manzur-al-Matin and Ainunnahar Siddika.
In court, the writ petition was presented by senior lawyers Z.I. Khan Panna and Sara Hossain, along with lawyer Anik R. Haque.
Representing the state, Additional Attorney General Sheikh Mohammad Morshed participated in the hearing, accompanied by Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy.
Following the hearing, the court has scheduled the next date for tomorrow, Tuesday.
