The General Secretary of the Awami League, Obaidul Quader, has
emphatically denied allegations that law enforcement agencies have arrested or
tortured innocent students.
In a recent statement, Quader asserted, "Only those who were directly involved in terrorism and violence are being arrested based on specific information. However, rumors are being spread on social media against the law enforcement agencies to incite regular students."
Quader, who also serves as the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, accused cyber terrorists of spreading misinformation through the dissemination of false news and fake photographs. He attributed recent attacks on major establishments, including Bangladesh Television (BTV) and the metro rail, to the BNP-Jamaat coalition's planned actions.
The Awami League leader claimed that the BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) has a history of hijacking any anti-government agitation, labeling them as part of an anti-government movement. "BNP’s only strategy is to create anarchy and conspiracy to usurp power after being rejected by the countrymen repeatedly," Quader stated.
He further alleged that BNP leaders, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, have exploited innocent students to advance their agenda to overthrow the government. Quader emphasized that the demands of the students are distinct from those of the BNP, adding that calls for the government's resignation are solely the demands of BNP and Jamaat, not the students.
Quader reiterated that in a democratic society, a change in government can only come through the people's mandate. He highlighted that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is constitutionally empowered to lead the government. Despite ongoing challenges, Quader assured that the government has shown the utmost patience and is committed to protecting citizens from the chaos orchestrated by the BNP-Jamaat alliance.
The government, he noted, has formed an investigation commission to probe every incident of violence and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice. "Every culprit will be brought to justice, and the government is determined to restore peace and law and order," he declared.
Quader concluded by urging the public to remain vigilant against the subversive activities of the BNP-Jamaat and their allies, reinforcing the government's resolve to maintain stability and security in the country.
