Hearing on writ petition for release of six coordinators and to halt shooting postponed due to judge's illness.
The High Court hearing on the writ petition seeking the release of six detained student movement coordinators and a directive to cease shootings has been postponed due to the illness of a judge.
The bench, consisting of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon, was unable to convene today.
Lawyers and concerned parties had gathered at the court premises from early morning, but the hearing will be rescheduled.
At that moment, the court clock read 10:37 AM. A court officer informed the Attorney General that the second judge on the bench, Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon, was unwell, so the dual bench would not be meeting today.
Subsequently, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin and the petitioners' lawyers were seen departing the courtroom.
A source connected to the court disclosed that Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon had taken a sick leave for the day.
Earlier, on Monday, two Supreme Court lawyers filed a writ petition seeking the immediate release of the six coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement who were allegedly detained, and an order to stop live ammunition from being used against protesters across the country.
The lawyers are Manzur-al-Matin and Ainunnahar Siddika.
The writ was heard by the High Court’s dual bench on both Monday and Tuesday. On today's court schedule, the petition was listed as item number 10 for orders.
