Bangladesh Bank official endorses the non-cooperation movement

Mohammad Nazrul Islam, an Additional Director at Bangladesh Bank, has publicly endorsed the student-led movement through his Facebook page, reported Prothom Alo.

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Saturday announced a nationwide comprehensive non-cooperation movement set to begin on Sunday and Nazrul announced he would take part in it.

In his comments, Nazrul Islam has also raised concerns about the current state of the banking sector and advocated for increased autonomy for the central bank.

In a statement to Prothom Alo, Nazrul Islam confirmed his support, saying, "I personally made this comment on Facebook. In the current situation, there is no alternative but to support the students. I stand by what I have written."

Nazrul Islam has also changed his Facebook profile picture to red as a symbol of his stance. He updated his profile picture last Thursday and wrote on Facebook the following day: "I am Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Additional Director at Bangladesh Bank.

I declare my solidarity with the comprehensive non-cooperation movement initiated by the students. For 15 years, I have silently endured the government's actions, including killings, bank looting, and corruption. I was unable to speak out before."
