Four BNP leaders' homes, including Amir Khasru's, attacked and set on fire in Chattogram

In a series of coordinated attacks in Chattagram between 8 PM and 9 PM today, the homes of four prominent BNP leaders were targeted and vandalized.

The leaders include BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice Chairman Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, and former City Committee Convener Shahadat Hossain.

Vehicles parked outside the residences were also set ablaze.

BNP leaders have accused Chhatra League and Jubo League members of perpetrating the attacks.

Shahadat Hossain recounted the attack on his Badsha Mia Road residence to daily Prothom Alo, stating that over a hundred activists vandalized his home, damaging property and setting fire to numerous parked cars belonging to building residents.

Hossain's ill mother was present during the attack, while he was away. He expressed his confusion over the incident, claiming no involvement in any activities that would warrant such an attack.

The Panchlaish residence of City BNP Convener, Ershad Ullah, was attacked after an earlier assault on Shahadat's house.

BNP office official, Idris Ali, attributed this attack to Chhatra League and Jubo League members. Around 9 PM, the Mehedibag residence of BNP Standing Committee member, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, was attacked and set on fire.

Witnesses reported multiple cocktail explosions in the surrounding area. Amir Khasru's personal assistant, Md.Selim, confirmed the attack occurred while Amir Khasru's brothers were at home and attributed it to Chhatra League and Jubo League members.

Acting Officer-in-Charge of Chawk Bazaar Police Station, Wali Uddin Akbar, confirmed receiving reports of a vehicle fire in front of Amir Khasru's house and stated that the police are currently investigating the scene.

Mir Helal Uddin, BNP's Chattogram division Assistant Organizing Secretary, reported that Chhatra League and Jubo League members attacked and vandalized his family's Chatteshwari residence while his father, Mir Nasir Uddin, was home.

The attackers damaged the property's exterior, including two Pajero vehicles, but failed to gain entry.

City Chhatra League President Imran Ahmed denied any involvement of Chhatra League or Jubo League members in the attacks on BNP leaders' homes, stating they were currently at the residence of Mohiuddin Chowdhury, following vandalism at their own leader's house. He emphasized their opposition to organizational clashes.

Earlier in the evening, several other incidents of political violence occurred, including vandalism at the residence of Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, an attack on the residence of Awami League Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, and vandalism and arson at the office of Member of Parliament Md. Mohiuddin Babu.
