A decision has been made to establish an interim government with Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus as its head, two sources confirmed. This resolution was reached during a meeting involving President Mohammad Shahabuddin, the chiefs of the three armed forces, and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Earlier on Tuesday, August 6, at around 6 p.m., the 13 coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement visited Bangabhaban to discuss the current situation and the framework for the interim government with the President. At 7:40 p.m. on the same day, the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force arrived at Bangabhaban. The decision to form the interim government was made following discussions among President Shahabuddin, the coordinators, and the military leaders. On the afternoon of Monday, August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister and left the country with her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana. The Cabinet was dissolved shortly thereafter. Following Sheikh Hasina's resignation, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of the Bangladesh Army, addressed the nation, announcing that an interim government would be formed to govern the country.
