Feni,
Aug 6 (UNB)-Violent attacks, vandalism and arson targeted three police stations
in Feni on Monday night.
According to a Feni
police official, who requested anonymity, angry mobs attacked Feni model,
Daganbhuiyan and Chhagalnaiya police stations, resulting in significant damage
and the destruction of important documents.
However, no police
personnel were harmed, and all are reported to be safe.
Simultaneously, a group
of enraged mob attacked, vandalized, set fire to, and looted the house of
Alaudddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim, Member of Parliament for Feni-1. The house,
located on Cadet College Road in Feni town, was unoccupied at the time as
neither Nasim nor his family members were present.
Further violence erupted
on Monday night at the house and business establishments of Zainal Abedin
Mamun, the General Secretary of the Upazila Awami League and Chairman of
Rajapur Union Parishad (UP) in Dagonbhuiyan upazila.
Additionally, miscreants
looted all the cattle from a farm owned by Abu Naser Chowdhury Asif, the former
president of the Dagonbhuiyan upazila Chhatra League. The Yakubpur Union
Parishad office was also vandalized.
Since Tuesday morning,
there has been an absence of police or law enforcement officers in the district
town. In their stead, scout members from the organization "Amra
Sebok" were seen managing traffic, receiving praise for their efforts.
Following the news of
Sheikh Hasina's resignation, all elected representatives from Feni's three
constituencies, six upazilas, including chairpersons, vice-chairpersons,
mayors, councilors, union parishad chairmen and members, and district council members
have gone into hiding, fearing public outrage.
The absence of police
has left the general population in a state of fear. Although student protesters
and members of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami have repeatedly called for peace,
incidents of violence continue. On Tuesday, the bodies of two Jubo League
activists were discovered in separate locations in Feni Sadar Upazila.
