626 sheltered in military camps amid political unrest: ISPR
On August 5, amid significant political upheaval, 626 individuals, including political figures, were sheltered in military camps for their safety, a press release of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
As conditions improved, 615 people left the camps voluntarily. Four individuals were transferred to law enforcement following formal procedures based on complaints. Currently, seven people remain in the camps.
ISPR stated that the country's law and order situation deteriorated sharply on August 5 due to political changes, prompting several citizens to seek refuge in military camps out of fear for their lives.
The sheltered individuals included 24 political figures, 5 judges, 19 civilian administrative officers, 28 police officers, 487 police personnel at various levels, 12 individuals from public universities, and 51 family members.
The release indicates that, as conditions improved, 615 people left the camps voluntarily. To date, 4 of those sheltered have been handed over to law enforcement following proper legal procedures based on complaints.
Currently, 7 individuals, including 3 sheltered individuals and 4 family members, remain in the camps. The military has provided all relevant details to the appropriate ministry.
The press release further highlights that the Bangladesh Army is working impartially and professionally to restore law and order, prevent extrajudicial actions, and uphold the rule of law.
The public is urged to stay patient, cooperate, and ignore rumors. The Bangladesh Army remains dedicated to supporting the public while respecting national laws.
