Aug 19 (UNB) - A case has been filed against 76 individuals including former
home minister, former SCC mayor, former VC-Pro VC-proctor of SUST, in
connection with the death of a Shahjalal University of Science and Technology
(SUST) student.
Former Home Minister
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury,
former MP Habibur Rahman Habib, former SUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid
Uddin Ahmed, former Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Kabir Hossain, former
Proctor Professor Dr. Kamruzzaman Chowdhury were accused among others.
The student, Rudra Sen,
drowned in a river while attempting to escape from police on July 18. Rudra , a
second-year student in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Polymer
Science, was from the village of Pahartali in Dinajpur.
The case was filed on
Monday in the Sylhet Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court by Hafizur
Islam, a student at SUST and a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student
Movement.
Hafizur Islam stated,
"Rudra became a martyr on July 18 due to the attack by the police and
Chhatra League. He was injured before this incident. We have now approached the
court and seek a thorough investigation and justice for this case."
He added that they have
spoken with Rudra's family regarding the case.
The other accused in the
case include Sylhet Deputy Police Commissioner (North) Azbahar Ali Sheikh,
Additional Police Commissioner (North Crime) Md. Sadeq Dostgir Kausar,
Jalalabad Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mizanur Rahman, Investigation
Officer Abu Khaled Md. Mamun, Awami League central organizational secretary and
former MP Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, former MP Ranjit Sarker, and other
leaders and activists from Sylhet's Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra
League.
The case also includes
several leaders and activists from SUST Chhatra League, including President
Khalilur Rahman, General Secretary Sajeebur Rahman, Senior Vice-President Mamun
Shah, and Joint General Secretary Suman Mia.
