The interim government will establish a commission to investigate cases of enforced disappearances during the 15-year period of Sheikh Hasina.
This commission will look into the reasons behind the abductions and identify those responsible.
The decision was made at a meeting of the interim government's advisory council held today, Thursday, at the State Guesthouse Jamuna. The meeting was chaired by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
After the meeting, Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan, who oversees the Environment, Forests and Climate Change, and Water Resources, briefed the media in front of Jamuna. Information and Broadcasting Advisor Md.
Nahid Islam and Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan also provided statements.
At Thursday’s meeting of the advisory council, it was decided to establish a foundation to address the needs of individuals affected by the student and public protests.
Initially, the Chief Advisor will head this foundation, with key positions also being held by family members of the injured and deceased.
The foundation will focus on the treatment and rehabilitation of the injured, as well as preserving the memory of the mass uprising.
Additionally, a policy for naming institutions and buildings has been approved. Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan explained that this policy will outline guidelines for naming projects and structures funded by public money to ensure they do not promote 'fascism' and reflect public opinion.
She noted that eventually, this policy will need to be incorporated into a legal framework to prevent confusion and disorder related to names following political changes.
The advisory council also made decisions on ensuring maximum transparency in legal processes.
In this regard, Home Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury will meet with several advisors and legal experts to determine where and how directives should be issued. They will provide guidance on these matters accordingly.
