Floodwaters have inundated homes, roads, and fields, trapping millions of children and families without access to food or essential relief supplies.
In this critical situation, Rohingya refugees seeking refuge in Bangladesh have stepped up to assist those affected by the floods in Feni, Noakhali, and Cumilla.
Teams of Rohingya refugees, led by young activists, have been distributing food rations door-to-door within the camps.
The donated supplies include rice, soybean oil, onions, garlic, lentils, sugar, milk packets, and other necessities.
Rohingya activist and journalist Sahat Zia Hero stated, “Despite lacking income sources in the camp, we are dedicated to showing solidarity and support for the people of Bangladesh, who have been devastated by the floods.”
“We will always remember how the people of Bangladesh came to our aid when we fled our country due to the genocide in 2017,” he said, adding that their swift response and emergency support were extraordinary and unforgettable.
“That’s why our community has decided to assist the flood-affected people in Bangladesh with whatever resources we have. We cannot stand by and watch others suffer when we have the means to help,” he added.
He continued, “While we may not have the capacity for large donations, our hearts are full and our sense of humanity is strong. As refugees, we know the pain of losing homes and the struggles of displacement. We cannot abandon those in crisis.”
