Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer (leader) of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, delivered a powerful message urging for unity in the national interest, emphasizing that there is no time to look back.

His remarks came during a view exchange meeting with journalists from Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka North chapter, held at the Thai Chi Restaurant in Tejgaon at noon yesterday.

In his keynote speech, Dr. Rahman underscored the critical role of both journalists and politicians in driving social change and establishing justice.

He drew a parallel between the dangers faced by politicians and journalists, stating that both often risk their lives in their respective fields. He stressed that looking back is no longer an option and that working together for the national interest is imperative.

Dr. Rahman urged media personnel to carry out their professional duties independently and with a sense of patriotism.

He emphasized that the mission should not be one of hatred or revenge but of forgiveness and correction. According to him, the focus should be on fostering a new, people-centric political approach through the media.

Reflecting on the past 15 years of government repression, Dr. Rahman expressed regret over the inability to speak openly and work freely for public welfare.

He called for respect towards all of Allah's creations, asserting that everything was created for the benefit of humanity and that there is no place for malevolence.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader urged for a united front across political divides to ensure the protection of citizens' rights. He noted that national unity would earn global respect and that media professionals and politicians must collaborate to achieve the freedom and welfare of the people.

He also pointed out that recent restrictions on the media had been temporarily lifted and stressed the importance of maintaining this progress through collective effort.

Dr. Rahman reassured that Jamaat-e-Islami does not believe in revenge politics. He affirmed that the party has forgiven those who inflicted suffering and emphasized a commitment to reform and forgiveness.

However, he stated that if victims or their families seek legal recourse, they would receive support. The party advocates for ideal democracy, which upholds the right to free speech and tolerance for differing opinions.

In his closing remarks, Muhammad Selim Uddin, the chair of the event, highlighted that the students' and public's joint movement aimed to establish justice at all levels of society.

He said that the joint movement of students and the masses aimed to establish justice and fairness at all levels of society. Their slogan was "We Want Justice." In our country, even media professionals are deprived of justice. They cannot perform their professional duties freely.”

“The authorities do not provide them with the wage board. As a result, they have to live a miserable life with their families and children. The time has now come to end these disparities. Jamaat will always be vocal in upholding the rights of journalists,” he added.
