Bangladesh has officially objected to the Indian government over the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old Bangladeshi girl, Shwarna Das, by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on September 1st.

In a formal protest note sent to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka today, Bangladesh strongly denounced such violent acts and voiced serious concerns about these border incidents.

The government emphasized that such killings are unacceptable and violate the 1975 Joint Indo-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities.

Additionally, Bangladesh urged India to prevent any recurrence of such brutal acts and conduct thorough investigations into all border killings, ensuring those responsible are identified and held accountable.

It was reported that the BSF finally released Shwarna Das's body to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday night, a staggering 45 hours after the tragic incident.

Shwarna, the daughter of Porendra Das from Kalnigar village in Juri upazila, was tragically shot dead by BSF personnel while attempting to cross into India with others near the Lalarchak border on Sunday night.

Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge confirmed that Shwarna's body was returned to her family after legal formalities. BGB and BSF held a flag meeting to discuss the incident.

Shwarna's father revealed that she and her mother were trying to illegally enter India to visit his eldest son in Tripura, assisted by two local brokers. Around 9pm, as they reached the border fence, BSF opened fire, killing Shwarna instantly while her mother managed to escape.

During the shooting, a couple from Chattogram accompanying them were also injured.

After the firing ceased, Shwarna's mother and the others sought refuge in a house in Lalarchak village. The injured couple was reportedly later taken to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet for treatment.
