Updated government list confirms 708 deaths in July revolution

The health ministry has released an updated list detailing the fatalities from the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, bringing the total to 708.

The revised figures were posted on the Health Services Division and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) websites on Tuesday.

Previously, on September 9, the ministry's initial count reported 631 fatalities, indicating an increase of 77 in the latest update.

The Management Information System (MIS) branch of the DGHS is responsible for compiling the data on those injured and deceased during the movement.

The division has encouraged anyone with comments, suggestions, or new information about the deceased to reach out to their nearest government hospital.

The published list also includes instructions for correcting any inaccuracies:

Family members or representatives must register with their national identity card, birth certificate, and mobile number.

After registration, the martyr's information should be downloaded and printed.

Fill in any missing details on the printed document.

The relevant institution will assist in correcting the information if approached with the completed document at the hospital where care was received or a nearby government hospital.

Responsible personnel will accept the form and update the information online.

Families can verify updates by checking the website.

The notice also stated that if any names of deceased individuals are missing, family members or representatives should contact the district commissioner, civil surgeon, Upazila executive officer, or Upazila health and family planning officer with appropriate evidence.

A committee was formed on August 15 to compile the list of deceased and injured from July to August, headed by Muhammad Humayun Kabir, former senior secretary of the Health Services Division.

On September 9, the health ministry released an initial report listing at least 631 deaths and over 19,200 injuries nationwide.

On Friday, Tariqul Islam, member secretary and coordinator of the health sub-committee of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, reported a total of 1,423 fatalities and over 22,000 injuries during the protests, with updates sourced from government and private hospitals across the country.

A public notice from the Health Services Division on Tuesday stated that the new list will remain accessible to the public until October 6.
