The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has successfully completed
the Cold Run of one of its three diesel generator units at Unit 1.
This procedure was executed in two phases: initially, the generator was tested with compressed air to assess the functionality of all systems, followed by a test using fuel to start the generator.
These diesel generator units play a crucial role in the
plant's safety system, providing standby power for equipment during reactor
shutdowns.
The generator unit measures 5.5 meters in height, 13 meters in length, weighs 185 tons, and has a rated electric power of 6.3 MW.
"Prior to the activation of the power unit, all systems undergo rigorous quality control and operational testing, which is a mandatory part of the commissioning process. The operational lifespan of Russian NPPs exceeds 100 years, ensuring the reliability and safety of our technologies," stated Alexey Deriy, Vice President for Projects in Bangladesh at Atomstroyexport.
The Rooppur NPP project, supported by technical and
financial assistance from Russia, will consist of two power units with a total
capacity of 2,400 MW, utilizing Russian VVER-1200 reactors designed to meet
international safety standards.
The Rosatom Engineering Division is the project's general designer and contractor.
