Dhaka,
Sept 30 (UNB) - BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday said
his party would stand by the families of victims of enforced disappearance in
their fight for justice.
He said this while
addressing a photo exhibition that depicts the sufferings of the families of
the victims who were forcibly disappeared in the city.
Mayer Dak, an
organization of the relatives of the victims of enforced disappearance,
arranged the exhibition titled "Goom, Jan O Jaban" at the Nalini
Kanta Bhattasali Gallery of the National Museum in Shahbagh in the afternoon.
"Our fight against
the incidents of enforced disappearances will continue. If there is an incident
of disappearance, an extrajudicial or illegal detention incident in Bangladesh
in the future....We will stand by them (the victims' families). We are
promising it," said Salahuddin.
The BNP leader demanded
the immediate arrest of those who were responsible for the incidents of forced
disappearances and those who killed the people in order to bring them to
justice.
Noting that he himself
was a victim of enforced disappearance, Salahuddin said, "We must work to
end the culture of enforced disappearance from our country forever. Those of
you who still haven't got your relatives back.... You are a living
corpse."
The relatives with
photos of the victims in their hands were present at the function.
Chief coordinator of
Ganosamhati Andolon Zonayed Saki and photographer Moshfiqur Rahman also spoke
at the function.
