July Shaheed Smriti Foundation to support families of martyrs, aid hundreds weekly: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary

Oct 5 (UNB)- Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Saturday night
said the recently launched "July Shaheed Smriti Foundation" will
stand beside the injured and families of martyrs with assistance, addressing
issues of 200-300 people each week.
"They started
working from September 12 and so far they stood beside 91 injured persons and a
family of a martyr, spending around Tk 85 lakh," he told reporters at a
media briefing at the Foreign Service Academy.
Chief Adviser's Special
Assistant Mahfuj Alam and Deputy Press Secretaries Apurba Jahangir and Abul
Kalam Azad Majumder were also present at the media briefing held at Foreign
Service Academy.
The Foundation was
formally launched with Tk 100 crore in donations received from the Chief
Adviser's relief and welfare fund to help those who were injured or sacrificed
their lives during July-August mass uprising.
An organisation donated
Tk 1 crore for the Foundation, Alam said, seeking donations from individuals
and organisations.
Chief Adviser Prof
Muhammad Yunus handed over a cheque of Tk 100 crore to the "July Shaheed
Smriti Foundation" from his relief and welfare fund at a ceremony held at
the State guesthouse Jamuna last month.
They urged people from
all walks of life and Bangladeshis living abroad to come forward and donate for
the Foundation.
Activities like
providing emergency financial support to the injured, archiving and
documentation works honoring the memories of martyrs, long-term rehabilitation,
mental health and counseling and global advocacy and awareness programs will be
implemented with the support from the Foundation.
There are 20,000 plus
injured while the number of martyrs is over 800.
Earlier, the Foundation
was formed with Chief Adviser Prof Yunus as its President and Shaheed Mir
Mugdho's twin brother Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho as secretary.
Besides, a seven-member
executive council has been formed for this Foundation.
