Experts from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh have successfully completed a specialized training program at the Rosatom research institute in Troitsk, Russia.
The three-week course, organized by the Rosatom Fuel Division, focused on the management of VVER reactor nuclear fuel and was conducted by leading specialists in Theoretical Physics, Computational Mathematics, and Advanced Engineering.
During the training, Bangladeshi engineers gained expertise in the Reactor Fuel–Coolant Activity (RTOP-CA) code, a critical tool for assessing the integrity of fuel rods and monitoring the release of fission products into the VVER reactor’s primary circuit.
This knowledge is essential for understanding the behavior of nuclear fuel under abnormal conditions.
Kirill Ilyin, Director General of the Rosatom Research Institute in Troitsk, emphasized the importance of personnel training in international nuclear power projects.
“An important aspect of any international NPP project is personnel training. One of the advanced training areas is using computer simulation tools,” he said, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the program, which included lectures, technical documentation review, and practical tasks.
Mohammad Shorif Uddin, head of Fuel Rod Jacket Spectrometry and Monitoring at Rooppur NPP, expressed appreciation for the training, stating, “The sessions provided a great opportunity to boost our competencies. The lectures and assignments were concise, easy to understand, and directly relevant to our roles.”
He also thanked the institute's team for their dedication in making the training effective and memorable.
Upon completion of the training, the Bangladeshi experts successfully passed their final exams and received RTOP-CA user certificates.
The RTOP-CA code is designed for real-time monitoring of fuel rod jackets and predicting fission product activity in the primary circuit coolant of VVER reactors.
Rosatom is committed to ongoing training for personnel at the Rooppur NPP, with plans for about 1,500 Bangladeshi engineers to participate in training sessions and internships at Rosatom facilities.
Approximately 800 personnel have already received training at the Rosatom Technical Academy.
