Alexey
Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, met with Pietro Barabaschi,
Director General of the ITER Organisation, to discuss the progress of
the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project.
Their meeting focused on Russia's commitments in the manufacturing and procurement of reactor components.
Likhachev emphasized Russia's pioneering role in fusion research, stating, "Russia is the cradle of tokamak technology and the initiator of the ITER Project itself. Our meeting reaffirmed Russia's vital position in global thermonuclear research."
Barabaschi highlighted the collaborative nature of ITER, remarking, "ITER is a remarkable example of international collaboration, where science unites nations in pursuit of a common goal."
"Russia’s contributions, alongside those of other ITER members, are essential in advancing fusion energy for the benefit of all," he added.
During his visit, Barabaschi toured the Troitsk laboratory complex, the D.V. Efremov Research Institute of Electrophysical Equipment, and the A.F. Ioffe Physical and Technical Institute, all key players in Russia's contribution to the project.
The
ITER project, located in France and involving 35 nations, aims to
demonstrate the scientific and technological feasibility of harnessing
thermonuclear energy on an industrial scale, along with the necessary
technological processes.
The Project Center ITER, a Rosatom institution, oversees Russia's significant role in developing, manufacturing, and supplying 25 systems for the facility.
