Chhatra League and Teen Gang attack anti-discrimination student leaders in Kushtia

Kushtia, Dec 15 (UNB) – Several leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were injured in an attack allegedly by activists of banned Chhatra League and members of a teen gang in Kushtia on Saturday night.
The incident took place at the Kushtia Municipality premises, where the student leaders had gathered to attend a pitha festival.
According to local sources, the victims included Mostafizur Rahman, the member secretary of the Kushtia District unit of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, along with joint convener Sayad Islam Shrestha, chief organizer MD Belal Hossain Badhon, and leader Humaira Kabir Sadia.
The attackers, numbering around 30 to 40 people, ambushed the student leaders. The assailants, identified as Chhatra League activists and members of the RD X Boys gang, were reportedly armed.
Several of the student leaders were injured during the attack.
Hasibur Rahman, the convener of the Kushtia District unit of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, condemned the assault, stating that the attack was pre-planned.
He urged the authorities to take action against the perpetrators.
"We demand exemplary punishment to the attackers, and we hope the authorities will bring them to justice quickly," he said.
Shihabur Rahman Shihab, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, said they received a complaint from the victims.
He said that they are investigating the attack. However, as of now, no arrests have been made.
Parvez Mosharraf, spokesperson for the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Kushtia, issued a press release condemning the attack and calling for the immediate arrest of those responsible.
