Bangladeshi Journalists in International Media (BJIM), a prominent association and advocacy group for Bangladeshi journalists, has announced Mohammad Ali Mazed as its new Member Secretary on the Ad-Hoc Executive Committee.

Mazed succeeds Faisal Mahmud, the group's founding Member Secretary, who is stepping down to take up a government position abroad.

Mazed, a text-video journalist with Agence France-Presse (AFP), was elected to his new role following internal voting.

He is a co-founder of BJIM and has previously served as an executive member of the ad-hoc committee.

Early in his career, Mazed worked as a Factcheck reporter for AFP Factcheck.

In a related move, Saif Hasnat, another co-founder of BJIM and a journalist with The New York Times, will join the executive committee as an executive member, filling Mazed's former seat.

Faisal Mahmud, who has also worked for Al Jazeera and Nikkei Asia, will remain with BJIM as an associate member, as outlined in the organization's constitution.

Founded in mid-2022, BJIM has quickly become a leading press rights advocacy group, representing Bangladeshi and Bangladeshi-origin journalists in international media outlets.

The group has issued over 70 press statements in defense of press freedom and against journalistic misconduct, despite operating in a challenging, often autocratic environment.

BJIM members work for a diverse range of global media organizations, including AFP, Al Jazeera, Reuters, The New York Times, The Guardian, EPA, BenarNews, and many others. Membership is by invitation only.
